Happy Tuesday, my friends! To all those here in the USA, I hope you had a restful Memorial Day weekend. Here's a few updates & lesson recommendations as the summer season begins. β

First up, a batch of five new lessons for my in-progress Beginner Guitar course. Here's the recent additions I've published since my last update:
Again, I'll continue to add to this course over the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can view the 14 lessons I've made so far Β»β

Last year I had a mini-breakthrough with lead guitar progress, and want to share some of my favorite lessons from that era. All of these will work on acoustic or electric.
β#488 - Amie Intro Riff, Step by Step
βOne of my all-time favorite lessons! This one showed me how a familiar riff can come straight from a plain old scale β and the mini-exercises I teach will help you turn that same scale into music.
β
β#521 - Soulful Lead over "Amazing Grace"
βA terrific example of how you can combine melodic lead guitar with familiar open chords. Two different play-along jam tracks are available as well, allowing you to practice at a moderate or slower speed.
β
β#526 - Pentatonic Improv over "Wagon Wheel"
βAnother one of my favorites, where I realized you don't need a "full" scale position to get your improvisational feet wet. Just take a smaller pocket of the notes, and that can be enough! Two jam tracks are available for play-along practice as well.
β
Finally, a quick list of some of the songs I've been dipping in & out of. I never know which will turn into a lesson next, but I might as well share them all here!
Let me know if any of these are ones you would like to see as a proper lesson.
That'll do it for today β have a great week ahead, everyone!

NOW AVAILABLEMinor Key Handbook! My friends! Today, I'm happy to share a brand new 8-page PDF guide that dives into minor keys. My aim is to give you everything you need to know when jamming or playing songs in any minor key β from chord families to common progressions, minor CAGED shapes, plus a list of all my song lessons in minor keys. Here's a video tour if you want a quick overview of the handbook. I do plan on making more videos diving into these topics, in time β but for now, I trust...
In todayβs new lesson, I teach melody deep-dive for Leonard Cohenβs Hallelujah β showing you a way to play the melody notes and chords at the same time. This makes for an incredibly satisfying way to play this amazing song, as it allows you to capture the recognizable melody line in a way that sounds bigger & more full thanks to the strummed chords. Hey there, my friends! Iβve been very busy the last two weeks with a ton of helpful updates to FretMonster, my interactive fretboard tool, which are finally ready to share. Let's start with a brand new video tour of FretMonster, which shows off all the new features: I also put together a free PDF handbook to give you a proper print-friendly introduction to the tool. This started as one page, then became two, and each of the last few mornings I woke up with additional content I wanted to add....
