LESSON #620 Click to watch free video lesson In today’s mini-lesson I’ll teach you a short, melodic fingerstyle groove inspired by Billy Joe Shaver’s classic Live Forever. Instead of teaching you the full song, I’ll take the core melody (heard in the intro) and show you three ways to play it using fingerstyle guitar. Each approach combines bass notes and melody, which you can play with just two fingers on your picking hand. Whether you're new to fingerstyle or much further along your journey, the three versions I teach will assuredly give you a fun little nugget to sink your teeth into. Start simple and build! Head on over to my lesson #620 webpage to get all my additional materials for this lesson. This includes print-friendly tabs, zoomed playthroughs of each of the 3 levels I teach, and a "Part 2" video where I show how to play this same riff in two other capo positions. SNEAK PEEK! I'm happy to announce the first 13 lessons from my upcoming Travis Picking Essentials course are online and ready to view! I still have a fair number of lessons to add (including PDFs for each lesson), but I'm confident this first batch of lessons provides a ton of value as-is. This is a true step-by-step course, starting with the absolute basics and building on things with each lesson. All the tutorials are broken into modules, allowing you to spend time with each technique before moving on to the next module. See my course overview page for a bunch of additional details — including what's still to come and when to expect it to be fully wrapped up. If you're a Premium member on my Song Notes website, you can view all existing lessons (and exercise videos) right now! Thanks all, and until next week – happy picking! ✌️ David |
